Handshake

Japan-

Meet: Handshake is appropriate when meeting, limp with little to no eye contact. A bow is acceptable when showing respect.

Depart: Use the phrase "Bye-bye", waving open palm left and right, and the eshaku bow.

Accept a gift: Accept with both hands and slight bow. Frequently given at the end of the first business meeting.

Sharing business Cards: Japanese may exchange business cards before shaking hands. Make sure business cards show your rank.

Mexico-

Meet: Men shake hands, or hug if they are more familiar with the person. Women pat each other on right forearm or shoulder. Do not appear irritated.

Business Dress; Dress as you would in Europe. Men should wear dark colored suits, and Women should wear business or conservative suits.

Accept gift: Open gift and react enthusiastically.

Sharing Business Cards: Exchanged during the beginning of the meeting.

Lituya Bay Megatsunami

On July 9th, 1958 at 10:15 p.m., following a 7.8 magnitude earthquake. The earth occurred on the Fairweather fault and also triggered a rock slide. The Tsunami occurred on Lituya Bay, on the border of Canada and Alaska was caused by the massive displacement of water. The mega tsunami caused vegetation to be destroyed up to 1,700 feet above the height of the bay. This Tsunami was the largest and most significant in history ever recorded in modern times. Decades after the Tsunami, the edges of the bay are still significantly damaged and can be clearly seen. Although only 5 people were killed in this disaster, the agriculture of the area suffered greatly. Much of the plant life of the bay was destroyed and has yet to recover. This particular event did not effect Canada's/ Alaska's economy greatly, mainly since there was not much civilization or local businesses near the area. This disaster did slightly effect Canada's timber supply at the time, but due to their great amounts of forest, they recovered quickly.
